During a preliminary hearing, officers from the Lima Police Department stated that Hayner rode a bicycle from the Mansfield area to confront Maldonado, who was seeing Hayner's ex-girlfriend, because he didn't like how Maldonado was treating her. Detectives say the two fought, and Hayner stabbed Maldonado. No hearing dates have been set yet for Hayner.
