BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) - It is the first day of fall and dozens of people grabbed a donut and some cider and started the season by “Walking Thru Autumn.” This is the 17th year that Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks District have held their weekly hiking series, which began on September 9th. The “Walking Thru Autumn” series travels around to eight different parks to give people the chance to explore the different landscapes that each one has to offer. This week, the group explored the prairie land around Motter Metro Park outside of Bluffton. Besides getting to see parks grow more colorful over the coming weeks, the park district hopes that hikers learn that the parks are a great place to go any time of the year.
“We want to get people outside and connected to our natural areas and this is a great way to introduce yourself to that,” says Dan Hodges, Naturalist, Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District. “But then the comradery of hiking with like-minded people. Getting out and getting out with some exercise and seeing friends that you haven’t seen for a while and learning about nature of course.”
Next week’s walk takes place at Kendrick Wood’s Cottonwood Trail, for more information about the various activities Johnny Appleseed Parks has going on this fall head over to www.jampd.com.
