KANSAS, Ohio (WLIO) - The Bluffton Pirates’ postseason run came to an end Friday night with a 55–30 loss to Margaretta in the Division V district final at Lakota.
Bluffton entered the matchup riding momentum after a comeback victory over Coldwater earlier in the week, but Margaretta controlled much of the game from the opening quarter.
The Pirates found early offense when freshman Brody Donley broke the press and drove baseline from the corner for a layup. Despite the basket, Bluffton trailed by double digits at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, junior Parker Lovell attacked the rim, using his shoulder to create space before finishing a layup off the glass.
Moments later, Lane Ginther delivered a pass inside to Owen Scoles for another Bluffton basket.
Still, Margaretta maintained control and took a double-digit lead into halftime.
Bluffton continued to battle in the second half. Bean Ginther powered through contact for a tough basket and a three-point play as the Pirates attempted to cut into the deficit.
However, Margaretta kept the momentum throughout the night and sealed the district championship with the 25-point victory.
With the loss, Bluffton finishes the season as the Division V district runner-up.
