FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee used a fast start and a dominant performance from senior Beckett Bertke to defeat Bowling Green 71-47 in a Division III district semifinal Thursday at Liberty-Benton High School.

The matchup was a rematch of last year’s district semifinal at the same site, where Shawnee earned a decisive victory. The Indians once again controlled the game from early on.

Shawnee set the tone in the first quarter by moving the ball efficiently on offense. Bertke got into rhythm early, knocking down a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer to help the Indians build momentum.

The Indians also turned defense into offense. After a block by junior Trevick Bertke, Shawnee pushed the ball up the floor, finding Beckett Bertke on the break. He converted the basket while drawing a foul, completing a three-point play that extended the lead to 26-13.

Trevick Bertke continued the scoring surge later in the half, stepping outside to hit a corner 3-pointer. The junior scored 14 of his 22 points in the first half as Shawnee built a comfortable advantage.

Beckett Bertke finished with a dominant performance, recording a double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Indians.

With the victory, Shawnee advances to face Mansfield Senior in the district final at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ontario High School.
