MARIA STEIN, Ohio (WLIO) — The nation’s longest high school football winning streak lives on.
Marion Local survived a double-overtime thriller Friday night, edging Anna 28–27 to extend its streak to 72 consecutive victories.
It was the Rockets who struck first in overtime, as quarterback Logan Ziegenbusch found Zeb Pleiman in the end zone to give Anna a 21–14 lead. But the Flyers answered right back when Kamden Eifert powered his way into the end zone to force a second overtime.
In double OT, Eifert once again delivered — scoring his fourth touchdown of the night to give Marion Local its first lead of the game, 28–21.
Anna refused to go quietly. Ziegenbusch connected with Brody Murray on a big throw to bring the Rockets within one. Instead of kicking the extra point to tie it, Anna went for the win — but the pass fell incomplete, sealing another dramatic Flyers victory.
Marion Local (8–0) remains unbeaten in Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) play and continues its pursuit of an eighth straight state title.
