More children going through Children Services court proceedings will now be helped as additional Court Appointed Special Advocates are sworn in today(11/26/19).

More children involved in court cases receiving assistance

Ten new “CASA” volunteers were sworn in. These individuals will assist and mentor abused and neglected children through court hearings. They meet with the children on a regular basis, get to know them, and provide a voice for them during a troubling time. Many of these volunteers have worked with children prior to becoming a “CASA”.

Bonnie Monford explains why she volunteered, “After working for Children Services for 20 plus years and I came out of early retirement and I’ve just always been an advocate for kids. That’s what I did all my life, just work with children and I'm just looking forward to it and I’m ready for the challenge.”

Nancy Neal Laube says, “I'm retired and I have a love of children. I have a history of working with children and have a master in social work counseling. I was working in the private sector as a mental health therapist with children for about at least 15 years.”

CASA will serve nearly 300 children this year but project 150 children will not be assigned a “CASA”. If you are interested in becoming a “CASA” volunteer call 567-940-2272.
