Nancy Junkins from Heir Force Community School named Lima Educator of the Year

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A local educator gets recognized for her dedication to teaching and contributions to the field.

Nancy Junkins from Heir Force Community School named Lima Educator of the Year

Heir Force Community School's Nancy Junkins was named the Lima Educator of the Year by Councilman Derry Glenn. Junkins has been in education for over 40 years, teaching in school districts in Putnam, Allen, and Shelby Counties. She came out of retirement to serve as the curriculum coordinator for Heir Force for the last nine years. Junkins believes that education is the most important profession out there.

"Because you start everybody down that learning track, wherever they want to end up in their own professional life or what they desire to do," says Nancy Junkins, curriculum coordinator at Heir Force Community School. "I always known I wanted to be a teacher I never changed that way of thought. No matter what happened in all of those years, I have never had a year I didn't like. I have enjoyed it and for students if you want to make a big difference, you be the very best, most effective teacher you can be."

"That's the part I love doing, making sure that we continue recognizing the people that are doing a great job in our community and education is one of the biggest ones there that do a great job in our community," says Derry Glenn, Lima's 6th Ward Councilman. "There is a lot of educators that deserve this award. I wish I could give all the teachers an award."

The Heir Force 8th grade class was also recognized for bringing in the most items for the school's food drive, and because they had the highest amount they won a trip to Urban Air Adventure Park in Toledo.
