The Summer Moon festivities are still going and on Monday a Cridersville-native and former NASA engineer gave a presentation on his career and he talked about his memories of his famous friend.
In light of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission Dr. Glenn Smith spoke at the Cridersville Otterbein Retirement Community about his time as an engineer and his relationship with Neil Armstrong.
Dr. Smith first met Armstrong while working at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The two quickly became friends after finding out how similar their interests were.
“We had part-time jobs in school, played baritone in high school and college bands and boy scouts,” said Dr. Smith. “We had a lot in common so we became friends and been friends ever since.”
Dr. Smith also shared that he emailed Armstrong from his hospital bed the day before he died.
