LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Center for Peace and Reconciliation hosted a Native American event to represent the tribes that are still located in Lima.
The "Plant the Seed of the Native Ways" event allowed local Native Americans to share their culture. They performed music and rituals to bring traditions to Lima. Audience members were encouraged to dance and feel the music along with the performers. This event was inter-tribal, bringing natives from many tribes together to share their lifestyle. Organizers say it is important to share all types of cultures, especially those who have been around the longest.
"Everybody come out and learn your heritage. The Shawnee people, we've been here for some time. Let's come here and show that our ancestors are still here with us," says Linda Ludwick, organizer for Plant the Seed of the Native Ways.
She adds that although times have changed, traditions still flourish in the Native American community. For future cultural events, check out the center for peace and reconciliation's Facebook page.
