Republicans in the Ohio House of Representatives have proposed a new bill which would ban all abortions in the State of Ohio.
The bill would prohibit abortions even in the cases of rape, incest, or danger to a woman's life. The measure was sponsored by Ashville representative Ron Hood and Urbana representative Nino Vitale, with more Ohio House Republicans have since signed on.
"We've had tragic situations where 17 are killed in a school shooting in Florida but the real mass killings are going on in the womb and a culture shouldn't be killing its own babies," said Vitale.
The proposal would allow criminal charges against pregnant women seeking abortions and would characterize an "unborn human" as a person under Ohio's criminal code regarding homicide.
Ohio has incrementally added abortion restrictions in recent years. Last week, an Ohio judge put on hold a state ban on abortions based on a diagnosis of Down syndrome
