Kids a part of this year’s Oheneba Soccer Academy will not only have the opportunity to grow as a player but also gain the skills they need to succeed.
About 70 kids attended the first day of camp on Tuesday night. Many students said they learned a lot and had a great time.
“The first day of camp was awesome,” said Braylie Kirk, one of the participants. “I scored the first goal and I’m really happy and I’m really glad that we got to eat cookies with each other and enjoy time with each other and meet new friends.”
“I learned how to dribble and I learned how to kick with my side,” said Tayo Awe, another participant.
“I like being the goalie and scoring goals,” said Dakota Reeder.
“It was fun getting to know people and passing around and playing games,” said Ava Sheeter.
Over the next two weeks, kids will learn the fundamentals of soccer and will be led by seasoned coaches and skilled collegiate athletes.
The head coach and founder of the camp said he’s confident that his coaching staff will have a positive impact on the kids.
“We know that we can pair our kids here to mentored by this university students,” said Edward Eghan the Oheneba Soccer Academy head coach and founder. “Not only will they benefit from their skills level as soccer players, but also academically. It will be a tremendous help for them.”
UNOH athlete and soccer coach, David Moreno, says learning the fundamentals of soccer is great, but teamwork is the most essential skill.
“I think rather than technical skills the fact of communicating with your teammates and getting to know each other is very important for team success,” said Moreno.
