Ohio Senators fighting Great Lakes budget cuts

President Trump is facing some opposition from the Ohio Senators for certain cuts in his 2018 budget.

President Trump seeks to remove all funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which was put into place back in 2009.  The program has used just over $2 billion in eight states to remove toxic wastes from industrial harbors, fought invasive species, and worked against algae blooms in the lakes.  Both Ohio Senators will work together to keep Lake Erie clean.

"We've made incredible progress and I'm not going to let any president, regardless of party, dial back the progress - we're just not going to let that happen," said Senator Sherrod Brown.  "I'm going to work with Sen. Portman and the governor, and I don't care what political party, we're going to fight the President if he doesn't change on this."

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative received about $300 million a year during the last budget cycle.
