May 20, 2024, Press Release from by the Ohio State Fair: COLUMBUS – A grand champion has been announced in the first ever Ohio State Fair Poster Contest.

Many fairs around the country host a poster competition for local artists to demonstrate their talents through an art piece that represents the fair. This year, for the first time, the Ohio State Fair hosted its own poster contest and the winning poster embodies many of the great things that fairgoers love about the Ohio State Fair.

Artist Lindsay Boyd's poster was chosen as the first place winner following two rounds of judging both by a professional artist and Ohio State Fair staff.

Boyd is a graphic designer from Lewis Center. She is also the owner and artist behind Spirit Slabs where Boyd creates hand-painted clay wall hangings inspired by iconic and historical buildings from different Ohio cities and colleges.

Despite her title of graphic designer, Boyd says on her website that her education from Columbus College of Art and Design prepared her for all areas of fine art - like the piece she created for the Ohio State Fair Poster Contest!

"There are so many fun aspects to the fair. I selected some of my family's favorite parts and created gel prints in acrylic paint for each," Boyd said of her grand champion artwork. "I used a vibrant color pallet because when you're at the fair, you're surrounded by bright colors. I chose textures for the prints that give a sense of movement because the atmosphere at the fair is lively."

Among the 74 total entries, the top five posters will be on display in the Creative Arts Exhibits in Kasich Hall B/C during the 2024 Ohio State Fair. The winners are as follows:

  1. First Place — Lindsay Boyd, Lewis Center
  2. Second Place — Jessica Miera, Spencerville
  3. Third Place — Christina Ullman, Graysville
  4. Fourth Place — Alissa Renzetti, Columbus
