OSU Lima Students, Staff Spring Into Service

Students, faculty and staff at OSU Lima are taking in Spring into Service. The program raises awareness about food insecurity in the area and gets people involved in volunteering.

Deciding what or where to eat sometimes is a difficult decision on our day-to-day lives. But for some people right here in our community, the question is whether or not they will even have something to eat.

"We were really surprised by the number of people that are homeless and don't have much food," said freshman Nim Kaur.

Nim spent her spring break last week volunteering at local organizations. One of them, Our Daily Bread where they serve an average of 150 people per day.

"There's a lot of people out there who need more support, help from others, just achieving to get in a better place," said Nim.

On Tuesday, Nim was part of a panel at OSU Lima with leaders at those organizations to share her experience and learn from them as well.

"Because they are our next leaders, they will take over the pantry, and they will serve the veterans in that way, and to let them know that opportunities are there is very important for us," said Kay Sellers with the Veteran's Food Pantry.

The panel is part of the program Spring Into Service, going on this week at the campus. They are also collecting food to be delivered at the Veteran's Food Pantry next week. And this Friday students, faculty and staff will be volunteering at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen hoping to also inspire others to also spring into service.
