Picking the perfect pumpkin at Suter's Farm

The pumpkin shortage  that Ohio faced last year is over, after crops were damaged due to excessive rain, this year is looking like it's going to be a pumpkin-palooza.

Jerry Suter, owner of Suter Produce says the pumpkins have dried and are ready. Suter says he planted about 7 acres of pumpkins this year. He says growing the fall gourds takes a few months. He starts by planting pumpkins as seeds in late May then he takes plants into the field in the middle of June and in October they are ready to be picked.

"On the weekend we have family days, Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 p.m. We have hayrides to the pumpkin patch and they can all pick their own pumpkins and all three generations will have their grandchildren and the children and will all come together" Jerry Suter, Owner of Suter Produce.

Suter says a good way to know if a pumpkin is ready is to make sure it has a solid handle and good color.
