LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Elementary students got a chance to enjoy some gooey fun while learning a science lesson ahead of the holiday break.

As part of the school’s Positive Behavior Program, students were rewarded with the opportunity to make their own slime. While the activity was enjoyable, it also included an educational component that allowed students to learn through hands-on participation.

Each student was assigned a specific role in the slime-making process, ensuring everyone took part in the experiment. Students worked together to add ingredients and follow directions, reinforcing teamwork and responsibility. Volunteer and former teacher Michele Rigali says the activity combined fun with learning.

Positive Behavior Program rewards students with hands-on science

"We do do a little bit of education. It's a non Newtonian fluid. It's not a solid, it's not a liquid, it's not a gas. And so they come in and they make it themselves. They're all numbered. They all have a job. They have to add the glue, they have to add the water, they have to add the borax."

Rigali said students were given rules to follow when taking the slime home and joked that she hopes parents will not be too upset about the messy science project. Students left excited about their experiment, eager to share their slime and what they learned with their families.
