SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee United Methodist Church is opening its doors Saturday to help families in need this holiday season.

The church will host its first-ever Community Christmas Holiday Shop from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Families who need help providing presents can show up and register at the door. After checking in, each family will receive vouchers based on household size. Those vouchers are used at checkout, but all items in the shop are free. The holiday shop is stocked with new and gently used items donated by the community, including toys, clothing, blankets, books and personal care items.

“Saturday, Dec. 20, the shop will open from 3 to 5. They just have to show up,” said Camille Freking-Cover, music and worship leader at Shawnee United Methodist Church. “They’ll register at a little table so we can get their name and know how many people we’re serving, which will also give us an idea of what we need next year. We’ll also have a cocoa and coffee bar set up so they have somewhere to sit and hang out while they wait for their turn to shop.”

The church is also inviting the community to a free Christmas Eve dinner at 8:30 p.m., open to anyone who would like to attend.
