LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The recent snowfall has made local law enforcement aware of some city ordinances that need to be addressed.
Lima city ordinance 452 deals with issues concerning parking of vehicles on public right of ways and other properties. There are several sections that relate to unattended vehicles and the options that law enforcement has to correct the situation. "Unattended" covers a vehicle being warmed up that has been left unlocked to a vehicle that has not been moved for several days.
"If you were to leave your vehicle parked unattended on the roadway for over 48 hours and not move it, and it's very easy to tell which vehicles have not been moved, especially when we have snowfall like this, it's very easy for us to see those things," said Lima Police Chief Curtis Hile. "We can [issue a] warning, tag that car, and if it's there after 48 hours, we can impound that vehicle, which is going to come with it with a fee to get your vehicle out, because you're going to have to pay the storage fees for that vehicle to be impounded."
The chief says they don't want to impound your vehicle, they just want residents to follow the ordinances as he says they were created to make streets safer and passable. Not moving your vehicles can make it difficult for first responders and street crews to get through your streets.
