For more than 10 years, Lima Exchange Club has been honoring soldiers and veterans in a special way.
"Flags for Soldiers" came out of their "Healing Field" project that the club did in 2007, as a way for the community to honor soldiers and first responders. Over 1,500 flags were set up and after the Healing Field, more than 100 flags that were purchased were not taken. So the left-over flags became the starting point for "Flags for Soldiers" and this project has been honoring veterans and soldiers returning from tours of duty in the Lima area since.
"We now get requests from groups, such as Primrose here today, who want to honor the veterans and particularly on Veterans Day. So we come out and we put up about 50 flags in honor of all the veterans and we leave them up for the day," shares Navy Veteran Mike Mullen.
The flags were on display until 2 p.m. today(11/11/19) because of the forecasted snowfall. It's an event that can be scheduled year-round and doesn't just take place on Veterans Day.
