COLUMBUS GROVE, Ohio (WLIO) — Students in Columbus Grove laced up their skates and hit the rink Monday as Grove Skateland opened its doors on Presidents Day, giving kids a chance to have fun on their day off from school.
In addition to opening on special holidays, Grove Skateland hosts events throughout the year, inviting families to gather for seasonal celebrations and affordable entertainment.
Students said they were excited to spend time with friends while staying active during the winter months.
“If I'm sitting at home, there's not that much to do it not that many people are home. Fun to like learn, because I used to be bad at it, and now it's fun that you actually get to do it,” says Annelyse, enjoys skating.
Owner Christine Clymer said providing a safe, affordable activity is especially important during colder months when outdoor options are limited.
“It gives the kids something to do. There's not a lot of things to do in the winter time. And if we can offer an event where kids can come out, and it's affordable for adults and kids, that's why we open up. It's very good exercise. You would be surprised at how many muscles you use when you do roller skate. So it's not just a cardio workout, but your muscles get a workout too,” says Christine Clymer, Owner Grove Skateland.
