OTTAWA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Putnam County Senior Citizens Association served lunch and raised money for its programs during its monthly fundraiser Thursday.
Volunteers prepared meals for the organization's "Lunch in the Park" fundraiser, offering dine-in and carryout options. Thursday's pork chop platter was donated by Ted's Market in Pandora.
The fundraiser is held every third Thursday from May through September and helps support the association's activities and services for local seniors. While the organization receives support through United Way donations, it does not receive state funding, making fundraisers like this an important source of revenue to keep its programs available.

"Part of the problem is seniors need an opportunity to get out and socialize and see people. This is a very free-spirited organization and people are always welcome to come in. It gives them a chance to keep their cognitive skills as well and do some socialization," said Phyllis Steele, former board president.
The next Lunch in the Park is scheduled for Aug. 20. More information and updates on upcoming events are available on the organization's Facebook page.
