SPENCERVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) - Thanks to the efforts of state representatives, the Spencerville Municipal Pool received a $900,000 grant for an expansion after applying in the spring.

The upcoming project will be a complete overhaul of the pool, and will include an extension of the shallow end to include a zero-depth entrance, a larger slide, and an improved splash pad. The changes will help improve the pool's accessibility while keeping costs low. Village administrator Ben Seuver said people have been wanting the pool to be improved for a while, and renovating the existing pool is cost-efficient for the community.

Spencerville Municipal Pool receives grant for renovation

"This is something that we've actually had a lot of outreach for. A lot of people utilize this space, not only the children in the community, but a lot of adults and grandparents as well. We've actually spent or sent out surveys, gotten community input and outreach, and everybody wants (changes to) the pool or a new pool. A new pool isn't so much feasible, as we're talking upwards of $8 million potentially for a new pool, and for a small village like Spencerville, that's just not cost-effective for us," said Suever.

Suever added that they are still applying for grants to further fund the general developments of the pool. The project is still in the design phase, and construction is anticipated to start in the fall of 2027.
