Lima councilman urges residents to maintain properties as city strengthens nuisance enforcement

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima City councilman is urging residents in his ward to take pride in their properties as the city steps up efforts to address nuisance violations.

Third Ward Councilman Jesse Lowe II said he has received numerous calls from residents concerned about properties with tall grass, weeds, nuisance and abandoned vehicles. He said neglected properties are affecting surrounding neighborhoods by attracting rodents and other vermin.

“The neighbors are they're just sick and tired of it. They don’t understanding why it can't be done. Some individuals have taken the liberty of cutting lawns that are next to them, which they shouldn't have to do. But they have done because we don't have enough manpower. The three individuals that we have in code enforcement right now are are very good men. They're doing a great job, but they need more help. And my goal in this and purpose in this is probably to get some more funding so we can get some more people hired in to help them out,” says Jesse Lowe II, Lima’s 3rd Ward Councilman.

On Monday night, Lima City Council approved a contract with a towing company that will strengthen the city's ability to remove nuisance vehicles.

After property owners receive notices to voluntarily remove vehicles that violate city regulations, the city will tow those vehicles if owners fail to comply.
