LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Kettering man is raising awareness about autism one mile at a time through a 300-mile round-trip bicycle ride across western Ohio.

Theodore Hale is in the middle of the ride, which began south of Dayton and takes him through Auglaize, Allen and Putnam counties.

As an autistic man himself, Hale hopes to show others on the autism spectrum that they can accomplish whatever they set their minds to.

By the end of his journey, Hale will have bicycled more than 5,000 miles over an eight-month span. He hopes his accomplishment will inspire others to pursue their own goals, regardless of the challenges they face.

“We got to break the stigma that can be associated with autism, and by doing these rides, it definitely doesn’t make it look bad. If you want to make autism look any good, you got to do something, and it does not necessarily have to be biking. It could be anything,” says Theodore Hale, riding 300 miles for autism awareness.

Hale will conclude the northern portion of his ride Wednesday in Putnam County with a stop to see the Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive. He is expected to return home to Kettering on Thursday.
