LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution is looking to expand its workforce as part of a grassroots recruitment campaign by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the wide range of career opportunities available within Ohio's correctional system, including correction and parole officers, medical professionals, educators, maintenance workers and other support staff.
Administrators say working in a correctional facility can be demanding, but they also believe it provides employees with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping individuals prepare for successful reentry into their communities.
"That mission is not lost on us. We understand how challenging it is to take an individual who has struggled with, whether it be addiction, mental health, employment opportunities, or education, and really just get them in an area, get them trained and educated throughout those processes. But again, it takes good quality staff to make that happen," said Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution Warden Ryan Walters.
Walters said the institution will be taking its recruitment efforts into the community to share its mission and connect with prospective employees interested in careers with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
