LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For decades, Thermal Gard Window & Door has served homeowners across northwest Ohio, replacing windows and doors and building patio enclosures.
Thermal Gard has operated from its Kibby Street location since 1991, but the building's history dates back much further.
"This location where we're at, on Kibby Street, used to be the No. 2 Fire Station in Lima, which was built back in the 1890s... it was just a shell of a place in 1991, so we completely redid the whole thing, we've added to it, and so it's a very useful building for us. And that's one of the nice things about being in Lima. You know, we've got roots here in Lima. We've got our facility in a building that's been here since the 1800s, which is an amazing thing," said Douglas Roser, president of Thermal Gard Window & Door.
Those roots go deeper than just doing business. Roser is a Lima native who said giving back to the community has always been important to him.
"I grew up here in Lima. I graduated from Shawnee High School. I married my high school sweetheart, we've been married for nearly 49 years. So Lima is a big part of who we are and what we're all about. Not only did we grow up here, we're also multi-generational in Lima. I can go back here in Allen County to my great-great-grandfather, who was from Allen County. Throughout the years, I've been blessed to be a part of many organizations that operate here in Lima."
Roser has served on the boards of the Lima Rescue Mission, Teens for Christ and several other local organizations.
"It's nice to be involved on boards where I can have an impact in the community in which we work."
This is the first of several stories highlighting Thermal Gard Window & Door. In the coming weeks, we'll take a closer look at the company's history, its work, and the people and animals behind the business as our America 250: Hometown Proud series continues.
