LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued an air quality advisory for all of Ohio beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to move into the region late Wednesday night, creating hazy skies and unhealthy air quality through Thursday and into Friday morning.

Health officials say the poor air quality could pose risks, especially for people with asthma or other respiratory conditions, heart disease, older adults and young children. Those in higher-risk groups are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor activity until air quality improves.

"If you're working outside, take breaks. If you're doing some strenuous activities, take breaks and move inside as best as you can into air conditioning and filtered air so that you can be taken care of properly and not have to deal with it. The wildfire smoke's going to leave, it's going to be out of the area and you can continue those activities, but tomorrow may be a good day to just take a break from those activities," said Allen County Health Commissioner Brandon Fischer.

Anyone who develops symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart palpitations or chest pain should seek medical attention immediately.
