A common health-related resolution people make at the new year is to quit smoking.

Smoking

The folks at Allen County Public Health say it is an easier feat to accomplish when you are not going it alone. You will do much better if you find support from people who have experienced what it is like to quit and keep them updated on your progress and your struggles.

They also say you will not get very far if you are not absolutely ready to give it up.

"Actually physically write down a list of why you want to quit and if the answer is only because I should, then you might not be ready yet," said health educator Tami Gough. "If you really think about it and make a list of the health ramifications, your family history, do you have cancers in your family already and are you making that worse, as well as financial considerations. It is not a cheap activity."

There are also medical avenues you can explore with your general practitioner to help you put cigarettes down once and for all.
