LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Get ready for sparks to fly at the Rhodes State College "Battle Bot Competition.”

Rhode State College STEM students host high-energy Battle Bots Competition

Staff, students and spectators gathered around the arena to watch capstone students from the Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Technology programs put their custom-built bots to the ultimate head-to-head test.

Staff, students and spectators gathered around the arena to watch capstone students from the Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Technology programs put their custom-built bots to the ultimate head-to-head test. The 16-week process of metal fabrication and 3D printing to hazardous component design and electronics gave students the chance to put the real-world skills they have learned throughout the semester into action.

“The thing that motivates us to do this is that we want to make STEM and engineering fun and enjoyable. At Rhodes State, we want to take learning to a level where you can really begin to relish it. Where it's no longer a boring classroom thing anymore. Where you really get to put what you learned to the test in a manner where you have a deep connection. Where you can truly enjoy what you are doing. A lot of people say that, but we are able to thankfully do that,” added Ahmad Mehmood, Mechanical Engineering Technology Department.

Organizers hope the competition can generate more interest around STEM for younger students.
