Shawnee Township Police Department swears in three new officers

Shawnee Township swears in three new officers and will be assigning others to be school resources officers for the Shawnee School District.

Kurt Boan, Tyler Cramer, and Amanda Lucas received their badges today and will be ready for duty around the first of the year after they go through training. Chief Mike Keith says these officers will be replacing two senior officers on the street so that the senior officers can become school resource officers when the new officers' training is complete. The township trustees approved the agreement with Shawnee School today and Chief Keith says the agreement is a win for both sides.

“They elected to have them employees of our department, not employees of the school. We supply the training and the equipment, they basically pay for the hours at the school, they don’t pay for anything additional. It’s a win for both of us, in the summertime when we have vacations the coverage, will be cut down on overtime greatly. Plus sometimes we need the extra person in the summertime,” said Michael Keith, Shawnee Township Police Department.

Keith says that the school resource officers will be mostly in the Shawnee High and middle schools, but they could make their way down to the two elementary schools.
