A stolen car report led to a chase last night in St. Marys.
Police say an officer was unlocking a car near Phil's One Stop Gas Station around ten o'clock Thursday night when a citizen ran up saying his Jeep had just been stolen from the business. The officer tried to stop the car but, that's when they say 38-year-old Christopher Thornton of Phillipsburg, Ohio, took off.
Stops sticks were thrown down, bringing the chase to an end after about twenty miles, in the 1100 block of Goettemoeller Road.
Thornton faces several charges including vehicle theft and resisting arrest. He's also charged with child endangering after officers say a 10-year-old child related to the suspect was found in the stolen car during the chase. St. Marys Police had help from the Auglaize and Mercer County Sheriff's Offices, New Bremen Police and the State Highway Patrol.
