HARDIN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A Ridgemont Local Schools student has been arrested for allegedly making threats towards the school.
The Hardin County Sheriff's Office says that they were made aware of a student making threats, and school officials pulled that student from class. As part of the investigation, the student was taken into custody and is facing charges of inducing panic. He is currently in the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center and will stay there until he's arraigned in juvenile court.

September 25, 2024, Press Release from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office: The Hardin County Sheriff's Office and Ridgemont Local School District learned of a threat made by a current student on September 25, 2024. The school resource office and school officials immediately removed the student from class. As a result of the investigation, one juvenile was taken into custody and faces charges of inducing panic. The juvenile was transported to the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center, where he will remain until he can be arraigned in the Hardin County Juvenile Court.
Ridgemont Local Schools provided information to members of the school district via parent square immediately after the investigation was completed.

September 25, 2024, letter written by Brian Hogan, superintendent of Ridgemont Local School District: We want to inform you about a situation that occurred earlier today at Ridgemont Local Schools. A potential threat was reported involving use of a firearm on school premises. We want to reassure you that this situation was taken extremely seriously, and immediate action was taken to address the concern. Law enforcement was contacted promptly and a thorough investigation was conducted.
There were no firearms found in the building, and at no time was there any direct danger to our students or staff. The safety of our school community is our highest priority, and we followed all appropriate safety protocols to ensure everyone remained secure. The situation has been fully resolved and there is no ongoing threat to the school or community.
We understand that incidents like these can cause concern, and we are committed to maintaining open communication with our families. We are thankful for the swift response of oru staff and we will continue to work closely with our School Resources Officer and the Hardin County Sheriff's Office to maintain the safety of our school environment.
