VANDALIA (WLIO) — Marion Local opened regional play with a 69-45 victory over Midwest Athletic Conference rival Fort Recovery in a Division VI regional semifinal.

The Flyers jumped out to a fast start with a 10-0 run, highlighted by a steal and three-point play from Kale Ahrens. Ahrens also beat the halftime buzzer with a fadeaway jumper to give Marion Local a 27-18 lead at the break.

Fort Recovery tried to chip away behind Brody Barga inside and a three-pointer from Hudson Overman, but Marion Local continued to build its lead in the second half. Brayden Mescher added a key and-one during a turnover-fueled run, while Brennan Hess finished inside to help seal the win.

Marion Local advances to the regional championship game, where the Flyers will face undefeated Tri-Village on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Vandalia.
