LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima City Schools Free Summer Lunch Program has begun.

The Spartan Lunch Express is making stops in three of the City of Lima's parks this summer. Kids up to 18 years of age can get a free grab-and-go lunch. The brown bag lunch today had a choice of a chicken sandwich or a crustable with fruit and milk. The van was greeted by dozens of families looking forward to a picnic lunch.

"I picked out milk, orange, uncrustable, and those are the good things for me that has a lot of protein and stuff," commented Finn Hepworth.
"Makes me make sure they get something to eat in their stomach and make sure we have food at the house and everything. Just gotta do my part," said Cameron Gammon.
"It's huge for us because of the parks right here, so we're able to spend some time with kids. Get some one-on-one time with them. But also, it saves us time from having to make lunch at home," said Aaron Bodine.Â
The Lima Spartan Lunch Express is part of the school's summer lunch program.
The free summer lunch program runs Mondays through Thursdays starting June 3rd through July 25th, with no meals on July 4th. Eat-in meals are from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Heritage Elementary School (816 College Avenue), Independence Elementary School (615 Tremont Avenue), Liberty Arts Magnet School (338 W. Kibby Street), and Unity Elementary School (925 E. Third Street).
