SHAWNEE TWP., Ohio (WLIO) — Superior Credit Union is helping a local nonprofit continue its mission of feeding children experiencing food insecurity in the Lima area.
The credit union presented a $1,000 donation to Spread the Love on Friday morning. The nonprofit will use the funds to help purchase a new van to deliver peanut butter and jelly lunches to children in areas of Lima affected by food insecurity. Spread the Love relies on donations to continue expanding its outreach, and Superior Credit Union said it was pleased to support the organization's efforts.
“I'm very thankful that we have the funds to be able to do that. I am very thankful to be a part of spreading the love throughout the community,” says Amy Burt, Superior Credit Union.
According to the nonprofit, what began as a small effort has grown into an organization that has served thousands of meals in less than two years.
“Spread the Love started with a jar peanut butter and a jar of jelly and a used van that was donated and 60 sack lunches in the back of a van and now 18 months later we've given out over 6500 meals to hungry kids in Lima and made a huge impact in the community and it feels good to know that we're helping children with the food insecurity in Lima ,” says Laurie Camper, Program Dir. “Spread the Love”
Community members interested in helping Spread the Love replace its van or support its growing mission can find donation information and learn more about the organization on its Facebook page.
