Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane

Built in 1936, Bath Elementary School received multiple renovations over the past seven decades, but building deterioration was too much to keep up. As a result, voters approved a levy that allowed the district to build a new elementary. While a new school has been built, the old elementary was opened up to the public for a trip down memory lane.

Self-guided tours brought dozens of people to the former elementary building, a building that was used from 1936 to December 17th, 2014. With students and teachers now learning in the new building, visitors toured classrooms with bare walls, empty desks and remnants from the big move. For visiting graduates, the tour was a chance to take pictures and remember days long ago.

Before the building is demolished in June, there will be two more opportunities to step inside the school. The first will take place this Saturday afternoon from 2pm-5pm, when a second self-guided tour event will take place. The second opportunity will be when school items and bricks are auctioned off. A date for the auction has yet to be scheduled.

Bath's new elementary school will take center stage on Sunday. The dedication ceremony starts at 2pm, with tours to follow.
