SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Thousands of people flocked to Shawnee Township Saturday evening to kick off the Christmas season!

Thousands attend 1st ever "It's Roundabout Christmas" in Shawnee Township

Before the Christmas tree lighting, Shawnee Township Police escorted jolly ole' Santa Claus from The North Pole.

Over 2,000 people came out to the "It's Roundabout Christmas!" A large and festively decorated Christmas tree was lit up at the Fort Amanda and Shawnee Road roundabout. Before the Christmas tree lighting, Shawnee Township Police escorted jolly ole' Santa Claus from The North Pole with the side of the street lined up of families welcoming in old Saint Nicholas' arrival. This is the first year of "It's Roundabout Christmas," and organizers say celebrating the holidays builds community bonding.

"Community bonding is very important. It helps us build that strong sense of being together, especially for the holidays, and community is everything and just being able to come out and see all your neighbors and to have a good time with them," says Meghan Hirn, Member, Shawnee Township Event Planning (STEP).

There was also plenty of food, bouncy houses and slides for the kids, Christmas cookie decorating, family train rides, and even a llama.
