LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Northwest Ohio Literacy Council is selling tickets for their major fundraiser of the year.
The Northwest Ohio Literacy Council will be selling tickets for the next round of its designer purse lottery, which starts on May 1, 2024. For $30, you will be entered into the lottery for a whole year. The 52 designer purses will be given away, including a Versace purse worth $2,300. To win, people need to match the Ohio Lottery Pick Three numbers on Wednesday evenings. The money raised will help the council continue their mission of helping adults not only read but also have basic math, writing, and computer skills.
"In our region, 1 and 6 adults read at a 3rd-grade level or below. It's a rampant issue; it's a hidden issue. People don't admit it; there is an awful stigma attached to not being able to read," says Ken Blanchard, executive director of the Northwest Literacy Council. "COVID certainly didn't do us any favors because there were groups of students, young and old, young adults that were kind of rushed through the system. So, that added to our problem."Â
Tickets can be purchased by stopping by the Literacy Council at 563 West Spring Street or by logging on to their website at https://www.limaliteracy.net/purse-lottery.html.
