Jim Tressel Generic

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) – Ohio’s lieutenant governor says he is not entering the 2026 governor’s race.

Jim Tressel says he will not run for governor in 2026, which will pretty much leave Vivek Ramaswamy as the lone Republican nominee. Attorney General David Yost dropped out of the governor’s race, as the Ohio GOP threw their support behind Ramaswamy.

DeWine appointed Tressel his lieutenant governor when Jon Husted was picked to replace JD Vance as Ohio’s U.S. senator. The only Democrat to announce a run for the governor’s seat is former Ohio Health Department Director Amy Acton.
