LIMA, Ohio (WLIO)  - The Ohio Arts Council visited Lima to discuss various grants available for schools, individual artists and organizations.

There are four types of funding opportunities, including project support grants and merit awards for individual artists. Those include the Individual Excellence Awards, the Artists with Disabilities Access Program, the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program and Artist Opportunities grants. Each year, 75 Individual Excellence Awards, valued at $5,000, are awarded. The Artists with Disabilities Access Program and Artist Opportunities grants provide $2,500 awards, while the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship offers $4,000 awards.

With these incentives, officials hope to help keep the arts alive.

"The arts are an integral part of our society. Having the arts enrich our lives is very important for all communities and all backgrounds. It's so important that we keep those vibrant and keep people engaged in them and funding them through the OAC is a big part of keeping those things vibrant, accessible to people," says Chaz O’Neil, Individual Artist Programs & Percent for Art Coordinator, Ohio Arts Council.
