MINSTER, OH (WLIO) - A group of people brave the freezing temperatures to lace up their shoes and go for a run.
This is the 14th year that the Harmony for Ohio Foundation held their Turkey Trot. The run was started by a group of friends, who decided to go for a run one Thanksgiving morning. The next year, 150 people joined in and the event has become a fundraiser for the non-profit ever since. For the 14th trot, 360 people ran or walked a 5K through the streets of Minster and the money raised helps the Ronald McDonald House and other organizations.
“It’s one of those things where we are thankful for everything that we have and we are just grateful to be able to just help out people in need and hopefully in return they are thankful for what we are doing for them,” says Andrew Bruns, Harmony for Ohio Foundation Turkey Trot. “We roughly donate, it’s anywhere from 2 to 3 thousand. It may not seem like a lot seem like a big number, but it’s more than nothing. So, we are really happy with it.”
Besides getting some good running times on cold mornings, the top finishers also walked away with a pumpkin pie to enjoy later at their Thanksgiving meal.
