Van Wert Elementary students finished off their school year by creating a path to a more welcoming school environment.
The students, grades one through five, painted rocks with inspirational messages with both art and writing, creating a school entrance that encourages them to be themselves and to make the world a better place. The theme came from an inspirational children's book that the students read before starting the project, "Only One You."
Van Wert Elementary Principal Justin Krogman explains why he thinks that this project is so important, "Basically just the kids to kind of describe who they are. Just so they understand that they're one little piece in the big world but they're important. That every kid has a place, that they need to be comfortable with who they are because every kid special and that just because they're different doesn't mean that it's something wrong but it means you just need to be comfortable with who you are."
Krogman says that the bright colors will create a more welcoming environment when the students enter the new school year this fall.
