LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A commercial van crashed into a tree just after noon on Friday at the corner of Metcalf and Haller Streets in Lima, sending both the driver and passenger to the hospital.
Lima Police say the van, owned by Washam Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning, was heading north on Metcalf when it veered off the road and struck a tree. The driver was trapped and had to be cut from the vehicle. He was seriously injured and taken to St. Rita's Medical Center. The passenger was taken to Lima Memorial with less severe injuries.

Investigators say the speedometer was clocked at 51 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The passenger told officers they were driving to another job and doing paperwork when the crash happened. Police believe the driver may have been distracted.
The crash remains under investigation.
