Media release from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol
Pleasant Township – On January 12, 2026, at approximately 3:44 P.M., the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post troopers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 224 and Lincoln Highway, in Van Wert County.
A 2010 Toyota Prius, driven by Gary Reidenbach, age 69 of Convoy was traveling westbound on Lincoln Highway. A 2007 Ford F150, driven by Daniel Baker, age 29, of Nappanee Indiana was traveling westbound on US 224. The Toyota Prius failed to yield to a stop sign and was struck by the Ford F150. The Toyota Prius came to rest in the roadway, and the Ford F150 came to rest off the west side of the roadway in the ditch.
The driver of the Ford F150 was transported by Van Wert City EMS to Ohio Health Van Wert, with suspected minor injuries. The driver of the Prius was not injured in the crash.
The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert City Fire, Van Wert City EMS, 2 A’s Auto Sales LLC, and Knippens Jeep Dodge Ram.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds all motorist to always stop at stop signs and check for traffic before entering an intersection. The crash remains under investigation.
