VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) – A Van Wert man facing murder charges for killing his stepfather has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Larry Andrus, 49, has pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Roy Watts. The other charges he was facing, including murder and strangulation, were dropped as part of the plea deal.

In September 2023, Van Wert police officers were called to OhioHealth to investigate the suspicious death of Watts. An autopsy found that Watts’ death was a homicide.

Andrus allegedly went on the run and was captured at a Florida bus station in November of that year by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Andrus is scheduled to be sentenced on May 14th on the charge.
