A flag exchange was held at the Elida town hall building for residents to come and drop off any worn and torn flags they have to be properly disposed of. Folks could also purchase a new flag to replace their old one and get a bite to eat from the WaffleLicious food truck.

June 14th marks Flag Day, which is the anniversary of when the Continental Congress approved the design for a flag for the United States of America back in 1777. Now, almost 250 years later, we observe Flag Day to honor veterans who have served and what it means to fly the American flag and what it stands for.

"We thought it was a good time to start and have people bring in old flags that need re-done, and we got all the veterans, and they've willingly and wanting to come out and do that. So we have them set up out here every year and do it, and it's been a great turnout for everybody every year. It's one of the reasons behind doing it this way. That way, if someone just takes it down, they don't just throw it in the garbage or something. They bring em' up, and even if they don't replace their flag, they can bring any flag up, and these guys will get it properly disposed of," commented Elida Village administrator Dave Metzger.

Donations were welcomed at the flag exchange to help raise money for the American Disabled Veterans Chapter 89.
