Much of the nation is seeing an increase in violent crimes and Police Chief Kevin Martin says Lima is no different.
Martin reports the city has seen a 12% increase in violent crimes this year compared to this time last year. Every category except burglary has seen an increase. The city has seen three homicides this year. Martin says the department will put themselves out into the community to try and bring those numbers down.
Martin also added that the department has an obligation to this community to provide the safest most secure environment possible, but they can't do it alone. They need the community's help. All three homicides in the city have been the result of gun violence.
