Wapakoneta Post investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 33 in Moulton Township

AUGLAIZE COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A Celina teenager is dead and another was seriously injured after being ejected from their vehicle in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 33 this morning in Auglaize County.

18-year-old Ethan Brunswick of Celina died at the scene of the crash. 19-year-old Gage Stein, also of Celina, was seriously injured and life-flighted to the hospital.

The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning, Brunswick was driving eastbound on U.S. 33 while a tanker truck was turning left from Bay Road onto 33. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Brunswick struck the rear of the tanker, ejecting him and his passenger Stein from the car. The tanker driver, 51-year-old Shane Thomason of Lima, was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.


April 25, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: WAPAKONETA – The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred earlier today, April 25, at 2:56 a.m., at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Bay Road in Moulton Township, Auglaize County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Honda Accord, operated by Ethan Brunswick, 18, Celina, was traveling east on U.S. 33, and a 2012 Kenworth tanker, operated by Shane Thomason, 51, Lima, was traveling north on Bay Road, turning left to travel west onto U.S. 33. While the Kenworth was conducting its turn, the Honda struck the rear of the Kenworth. After striking the Kenworth, both occupants of the Honda were ejected.

Brunswick succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

Brunswick’s passenger, Gage Stein, 19, Celina, was transported by air ambulance to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

Thomason was not injured as a result of the crash. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Wapakoneta Fire Department, St. Mary’s Fire Department, Buckland Volunteer Fire Department, CareFlight Air & Mobile Services, Auglaize County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Miller Auto Inc. and Miller Funeral Home.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post.
