Fireworks can be frightening to our furry friends, so it’s up to the pet owners to keep them safe. This means keeping them away from the fireworks, even if it’s something as small as a sparkler. And at the very least make sure the dog has its tag in case it runs off.

“We get a lot of dogs in that have taken off because they have been frightened by fireworks, so you have to be very careful and make sure your dog is maybe in a cage or in a room in the house. Turn the TV on, the radio on, anything like that to kind of cover up some of that sound so they aren’t as frightened,” says Allen County Dog Warden Julie Shellhammer.

If your dog does run off, it is helpful to post on social media, but it is also important to call the Allen County Dog Warden to ensure that your dog is returned home as quickly and as safely as possible.
