AUGLAIZE COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A multi-million-dollar expansion project will help a local organization grow its mission of developing kids and healthy communities.

The Y has been working on the project for five years now, and they are glad to expand their facilities to better meet the needs of their members and the New Bremen and Minster communities.
“There is going to be more for them to do when they come to the Y,” says Brittany Thiebeau, Ex. Dir. Grand Lake Health/Premier Health YMCA.
The Grand Lake Health/Premier Health YMCA, located at 4075 Wuebker Road, Minster, OH, 45865, broke ground on a $3.6 million expansion project, which will include a new gym and fitness center.

The project grew from just a new gym to adding a fitness center after Crown and the Dicke family donated one million dollars to the project.

Besides Crown, the State of Ohio also allocated around one million dollars to the project.
“Just as an organization, always see a need for gym space. We host basketball leagues here, we have times where we are hosting outside league. So, Minster and New Bremen Schools rent the facility as well for sports programs. Right now, our organization, and this branch in particular, our winter basketball league, has about 35 teams that practice nightly, and they all are competing for space here. Along with that, we have our members that use this space for open play, for pickleball, for volleyball,” says Thiebeau.

The metal frame building will be going up this fall, and the whole project is scheduled to be completed this spring.

“So, that is going to be about a 3,600-square-foot open concept room. So, it's going to take our current cardio room and our current weight room and it’s going to combine all of that equipment and put it into this new facility that is going to be at the front of the building, and so we are super excited about that. And it’s going to be able to open up space for stretching areas, for more equipment to be brought in,” adds Thiebeau.

“This is a great project; it’s amazing. $3.6 million expansion, and it really builds upon the strong sense of community here and makes it a destination point for wellness and health. And those tax dollars are going to go further here in our rural communities than any other place. So, just very supportive of our local communities and what they are doing here,” says State Representative Angie King, 84th House District.
